Dark Souls 2 - Day 1 - The Ukyo and the White Bear Yeti
So far the hardest part of the game was the character creation menu! I never have an easy time with this part of any rpg. I'm always trying to find that rugged samurai look that I've always wanted to rock. After 20 minutes of tweaking, I finally decided to go with a Warrior with long blue hair with a Brad Pitt from Fight Club. I call it the Ukyo. It's pretty stupid. Most of the time I'll be wearing as much armor as possible and I'll never see my Ukyo but the RP part of the G will never let me forget my roots.
The other part that stands out to me at the start of the game was a small path that led up a hill right before the hut with the 3 old ladies. Before entering the hut, I looked around to go left, my general rule for dungeon exploration all my life. After entering the hole, I saw large footprints in the mud leading up a hill. This is the kind of thing that I really miss with level design. In that one path it told me a few things.
1) There's something interesting ahead.
2) It will kill you.
3) You have to at least see what it is before running away.
The curiosity and risk of life is was what I love about Dark Souls and having a non linear option at the start of the game is refreshing.
